Purpleheart (Peltogyne paniculata) naturally occurs in Central and South America. It has earned its name due to its magnificent color. The trees can grow as high as 100-165 feet and 5 foot across.
The wood is dense, hard, heavy, and contains a unique dye. After sawing, you might wonder why you’re only seeing what appears to a rather simple brown color. The violet color only appears after exposure to UV radiation. So after building your piece made of purpleheart (but before sealing it!), just set it out in the sun for 1-2 days and it will soon become a rich violet.
