Imbuya (Ocotea porosa) is sometimes called Brazilian walnut, although botanically it has nothing to do with the walnut species. It has a distinctive, peppery smell as you work with it that I find very pleasant. The tree can reach a height of 130 feet and over 5 feet across. Imbuia can have beautiful burl wood with a very interesting play of colors from light to dark brown, with dark yellow areas.
The wood is very easy to work and medium hard and is therefore highly sought-after for many fine crafts.

Finely grained wood may contain imperfections such as open knots, bark inclusions, or cracks that are typical of the species. These flaws come from the way the tree has grown and are completely natural. They can usually be filled with low-viscosity cyanoacrylate (super glue) and wood dust.
