Machiche (Lonchocarpus castilloi) has its habitat mainly in southeastern Mexico, but also grows in Guatemala and Belize. Because of similarities, Machiche is also called Caribbean cherry. Machiche belongs to the Legominosen and is therefore closely related to Jatoba, merbau and rosewood.
The wood is heavy, hard and has a reddish brown color. It works relatively well. The exuding fragrance during processing is quite pleasant. It is used in the construction of high-quality furniture, as decorative veneers, in interior design, in flooring as floorboards and parquet and decorative arts and crafts such as turning.
