Satinwood (Chloroxylon swietenia) has its main habitat in Southeast India and Sri Lanka. The tree reaches a height of no more than 50-65 feet, but its trunk is not very wide.
The wood is hard and dense and can be worked wonderfully. It achieves a wonderful 3-D effect that can be described as silky and shimmering. Satinwood has a yellow color. It is mainly used for small handicraft items, but has also been used to craft luxury furniture. It is often used as a veneer, as can be seen, for example, in the so-called "Lemon Room" at the Faber-Castell family's new palace in Fürth near Nuremberg. The room was partially paneled in Ceylon Satinwood.
