Ziricote (Cordia dodecandra) is native to Central America and the Caribbean and delivers unique color and wood grain that is reminiscent of a Japanese landscape painting. The heartwood is dark brown to gray with black veins. The sapwood is rather light yellow.
The wood is dense, hard, and extremely decorative. The trees remain relatively small and reach a diameter of rarely more than 18 inches. Because of its excellent acoustic qualities it is mainly used for musical instruments, particularly guitars.

Finely grained wood may contain imperfections such as open knots, bark inclusions, or cracks that are typical of the species. These flaws come from the way the tree has grown and are completely natural. They can usually be filled with low-viscosity cyanoacrylate (super glue) and wood dust.
